Crowns & Sealants

Crowns

Sometimes teeth get damaged—they break, fracture, or weaken. Sometimes they become infected, and require root canals, which can compromise the strength and shape of a tooth. Sometimes an entire tooth may be lost, and an implant is required. In each of these cases, dentists often recommend a crown. Dental crowns are caps that cover and protect damaged teeth and dental implants. They are permanent coverings that restores the treated tooth to a more healthy appearance and functionality. A correctly applied crown will protect and strengthen the affected tooth for years to come.

Our office, located in the heart of Salt Lake City on South Temple provides porcelain, porcelain-covered metal, and gold dental crowns. Crowns are a recommended and healthy option to combat and ultimately correct decay and structure loss to your teeth. So if you have a damaged tooth and need a crown, come see the talented and experienced professionals at South Temple Dental.

Sealants

A natural tooth has countless crevices, pockets, nooks, and cavities (no pun intended) that food particles can get stuck in, bacteria can grow in, and that can be hard to clean. Over time, this can result in cavities, tooth decay, and other problems. Sealants are usually only recommended for children, generally applied to the permanent molars as they come in, about the ages of 7-13 years old.

Here’s how it works: a white sealant is applied to the chewing surface of a tooth, filling in the crevices and creating a smoother, easier-to-clean surface. The application process is simple, painless, relatively quick, and can be done to multiple teeth in a single visit. The process is usually performed during childhood when permanent teeth first make their appearance, but teens and adults who haven’t had sealants applied can also have it done to protect their pearly whites.
