Teeth Whitening Treatment: Orthodontists, Dentists & Teeth Whitening LED Kits

Teeth Whitening Treatment with LED Kits

From hot chocolate, mulled wine to big gingerbread lattes, the holidays are regrettably filled with many serious teeth-staining moments. I am aware that most of us have tried different products and tricks to whiten our teeth and some of us have shelled out thousands to whiten our teeth; unfortunately, none of these techniques has given us the results that we desire.

About teeth whitening LED kits

If you are tired of waking up every morning and seeing yellow or stained teeth in the mirror, think about learning how teeth whitening LED kits work to determine if they are a good option for you. When teeth whitening LED kits are mentioned, most people often wonder if the teeth whitening LED kits are necessary. Specifically, they ask, “Do teeth whitening LED kits work?” We shall discuss the efficacy of teeth whitening LED kits.

Laser whitening is a new technology that orthodontists and dentists all over the world have been using to help their clients achieve that perfect smile. If you are active on social media, you must have seen images of celebs with their at-home LED teeth whitening kits. The at-home kits may not be that effective since they are not dentist-monitored. Cosmetic teeth whitening/teeth bleaching is performed in a dental office or by independent dental practitioners.

How do teeth whitening LED kits work?

A peroxide-based bleaching gel is placed into direct contact with the dental hard tissues then accelerated by LED light which activates the gel components. As the active ingredients in the gel are broken down, oxygen, light and heat act upon the stained organic deposits, which oxidize them into a whiter color.

This system restores your teeth to its natural unstained color while maintaining the structure of your tooth. A study conducted by in vitro on non-vital extracted teeth, K. Luk, L. Tam, et al revealed that color changes were visible after different types of light activation were used during the dental bleaching procedure. They found that the application of light greatly “improved the whitening efficacy of some bleach materials…”

How long does the treatment process take?

As compared to home bleaching that can take up to two weeks, treatment with LED light takes about 30-minutes. The process is broken down into two 15-minute phases where the first 15 minutes involve the application of the bleaching gel and the second phase involves exposing the gel to LED light.

Is it safe?

Yes, the process is completely safe. The FDA compliant process is safe and painless. Those against the procedure argue that hydrogen peroxide can dematerialize teeth. While this may be true, hydrogen peroxide only comes into contact with tooth enamel, which is dead anyway. This is the reason why we are advised to let professionals handle the procedure.

Bottom line: while whitening can have problems, the chances are slim if done by a professional. When in doubt, please feel free to contact us for more information.

 Gum Contouring
02 May, 2024
Many people dream of having a perfect smile. Beyond straight, white teeth, the shape and health of one's gums play a crucial role in achieving this. Gum contouring is a cosmetic procedure that has gained popularity for its ability to reshape the gum line, remove excess tissue to reveal more of the teeth, or make the gum line more uniform. This procedure not only enhances the aesthetics of a smile but also contributes to oral health by removing places where bacteria can hide, potentially reducing the risk of gum diseases. It's an option worth considering for those looking to improve their smile's appearance and boost their confidence.
