How to Prepare for a Routine Tooth Cleaning

Your next dental appointment is coming up and you’re trying to get ready for it. Maybe you feel a little self-conscious about your teeth (did you really floss every day?) or you feel a bit nervous about your appointment. A little preparation can go a long way towards helping you get the most out of your appointment and ease your nerves. So, what should you do to prepare?

Write Down Concerns

Do you have a tooth (or even a few teeth) that feels extra sensitive? Have you noticed discoloration or what looks like cracks on your teeth? Write down any concerns you have about your teeth with as many details as you can think of. That way, you don’t have to worry about trying to remember them on your own when you see your dentist. If you’re concerned about remembering to bring your list, try writing it on your phone. Odds are, you won’t forget that.

Skip the Whitening

Sometimes preparation is as much about what you shouldn’t do as what you should do. If you’re self-conscious about how your teeth look, you might be tempted to whiten them before going to the dentist. It’s better to skip the whitening before a routine tooth cleaning, though. Whitening can make the teeth extra sensitive–not something you want to deal with during a cleaning. You’re better off asking your dentist to brighten them after the cleaning is done.

Clean Them Thoroughly

While you should skip the whitening, you shouldn’t skip cleaning your teeth yourself before your appointment. Take a few minutes to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth. This helps remove germs and bacteria from your mouth. It’s an especially good idea if you’ve eaten recently. Use some mouthwash for extra cleaning and freshness. Cleaning your teeth will help you feel less self-conscious about your appointment, and your dentist will appreciate it.

Getting ready for something like a routine tooth cleaning doesn’t have to involve anything crazy or stressful. Don’t worry if you can’t think of concerns to bring to the dentist. If preparing for your appointment beyond simply brushing and flossing stresses you out, you don’t have to do any of it. Ultimately, all you need to do is show up with your teeth and your insurance information (if you have dental insurance). We’ll take care of the rest.

 Gum Contouring
02 May, 2024
Many people dream of having a perfect smile. Beyond straight, white teeth, the shape and health of one's gums play a crucial role in achieving this. Gum contouring is a cosmetic procedure that has gained popularity for its ability to reshape the gum line, remove excess tissue to reveal more of the teeth, or make the gum line more uniform. This procedure not only enhances the aesthetics of a smile but also contributes to oral health by removing places where bacteria can hide, potentially reducing the risk of gum diseases. It's an option worth considering for those looking to improve their smile's appearance and boost their confidence.
